About REDCap Validation
Our REDCap Validation Announcement contains some frequently asked questions about validation, including:
What does “validated” mean?
What are the benefits of a validated REDCap instance?
Is the migration of my project to REDCap 10.0.32 mandatory?
Yes, we will decommission all other REDCap (7 and 6) instances by December 2022.
When can I expect my project to be migrated?
Migrations will commence in April 2022 and continue throughout the year. You will receive an email from the CRU with expectations and details about your project’s migration, including the date and time.
Will the migration require any downtime in my project?
To ensure migration occurs seamlessly, projects will experience approximately one day of downtime on the scheduled day of migration.
What are the benefits of my project of this migration?
REDCap 10.0.32 offers new features that can facilitate project workflows and instrument building. Examples include:
Tables can be built to organize CRFs and questionnaires
Alerts & Notifications can be designed to notify both study team members and participants when certain conditions are met within the project
Different surveys can be set up to be sent automatically to different email addresses.
Is there any risk to my project with this migration?
There is minimal risk to projects during the migration process. We have put several safeguards in place to minimize migration risks, including several rounds of validation:
The CRU performs a technical validation to ensure data and functions are successfully migrated.
Research teams subsequently validate the project again in REDCap 10 to ensure it operates as expected.
Projects are only brought back online once it passes both rounds of validation.
Is there a fee associated with this migration if it is mandatory?
There are no extra fees associated with migrating projects from REDCap 6 or 7 to REDCap 10.
Will the annual REDCap fee for my project change?
The CRU has a new pricing structure with updated platform maintenance fees. This new pricing structure provides more support for all project types and offers tiers for greater flexibility based on project and researcher needs. Please visit our website for the most up-to-date information on our service tiers.
I would like to keep the data for 5 years for scientific integrity. Is migration required for this purpose? And/or is migration required for an archived project?
Our REDCap 6/7 platform will be decommissioned by the end of 2022. If you would like to archive your project and keep your data for 5 years on the REDCap platform, migration will be required. Please consider the migration of your project on REDCap. To inquire about the fee associated with having your project archived, please reach out to CRU Support Desk.
